What is a Watermaker?
A watermaker is a device designed to convert seawater or brackish water into fresh, potable water. How Does a Watermaker Work?
The core technology behind most watermakers is reverse osmosis (RO), a process that removes salt and other impurities from water. Here's how it works:
1.Intake: Seawater is drawn into the system through an intake pipe. The water is typically filtered to remove large debris like seaweed or sand.
2.Pressurization: The filtered seawater is then pressurized using a high-pressure pump. This pressure forces the water through a semi-permeable membrane that allows water molecules to pass while blocking salt, bacteria, and other contaminants.
3.Desalination: As the seawater passes through the membrane, the salt and impurities are left behind, producing fresh water on 4.the other side. The brine (concentrated saltwater) is then expelled back into the sea.
5.Post-Treatment: The fresh water is often treated with additional filters and sometimes with UV light to ensure it is safe for drinking.
